I watched five things this past weekend and here are some quick thoughts on them.
Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator
Netflix has the some of the best documentaries out there. Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator is directed by academy award winner Eva Orner. The documentary covers the rise and fall of hot yoga founder, Bikram Choudhury. While the documentary isn’t incredibly exciting and a bit too long, it is excellent #Metoo filmmaking. I’m glad that the story of Choudhury was told because he is not a good human being. I am also glad that the women were able to tell their truth. Unfortunately, I will probably forget about this documentary by next month.

Ready or Not
A newly married bride must survive the night while playing a deadly game of hide and go seek.
Ready or Not was a really fun movie. The movie knows exactly what it is and delivers. The movie has really fun kills and pretty perfectly placed jokes. Samara Weaving is great like always and she continues to shine especially in horror/thriller movies. All of the performances are fun to be honest; the movie is full of unique characters. The setting reminded me a lot of the movie Get Out. If you like dark comedies, jump scares and gore, this movie is for you.

Little Monsters
A guy down on his luck teams up with a teacher to survive a zombie outbreak.
Little Monsters is another dark comedy. I thought the movie was okay. The best thing about this movie was the performances of Lupita Nyong’o and Josh Gad. They were tremendous. Gad plays a sleazy kids’ show host that cusses every third word and it was super refreshing for him. The zombie make-up was awesome. Other than the two performances and the zombie make-up, the movie was forgettable. The main character is super unlikeable, and I didn’t care about his arc.

The Nightingale
A young Irish convict woman, chases a British officer through the rugged Tasmanian wilderness, bent on revenge in 1825.
The Nightingale is a VERY brutal movie. Director Jennifer Kent definitely had something to say. On top of being brutal, the movie is very powerful and emotional. I have never wanted to see a movie character die as much as I did watching this. Aisling Franciosi and Baykali Ganambarr are great together as the main two characters. I cannot wait to see what Ganambarr does next. The ending did not land for me. I was hoping for the revenge I was promised but it didn’t happen. I get why though. The movie is supposed to make you angry and it does its job.

Once Upon a Time…. In Hollywood
A washed up actor and his stunt double watch as the next phase of Hollywood develops.
This was my first rewatch of the movie since seeing it in theater and it definitely holds up. This movie is in top three of the year. The storytelling and dialogue are great…of course. This movie bleeds Tarantino. DiCaprio and Pitt are fantastic, and I have a feeling they will be getting some awards love. Pitt is so cool. I think the Bruce Lee controversy is stupid. Who cares if he is talking shit about Muhammad Ali and got beat up by Pitt’s character. IT IS A MOVIE!! I absolutely love how Sharon Tate was handled. Tarantino treated her as if she was an angel among men. My only complaint is I wish there was more Tate.
